Our Intervention Plan is in its first phase focused on the individual child’s basic needs. Children at risk are identified in the community and interviewed at home with their family/guardians.
Children at risk are children who are not attending school because their family/guardians cannot afford a school uniform, school fees or stationery. The support we provide is either ongoing (in the case of child headed household) or short term (where the parents/caregivers are awaiting a social grant).
The intervention is personal and controlled by a well managed system of home visits and relationship building with the child individually and the family as a whole.
The second phase incorporates the community as a whole and promotes quality education for all. We initiated our commitment to quality education when we started an after school program in 2009 which attracts 200 children from the Dunoon community currently.
Sustainable Intervention is the aim and we believe that through direct community involvement and networking between the different organisations e.g police, municipality, community leaders and other non profit organisations our dream of building a Community Learning Centre will become a reality.
The Community Learning Centre will focus on the child’s greater needs by providing educational support, life skills training, skills training in the arts & technology and physical outdoor training. The learning centre will also be available for adults in the evening to encourage skill, technology and parental guidance training.
