We currently (2011) have 101 children on our KACIS program. These children are the future of South Africa and need your help to stay in school.

A school uniform is a prerequisite for public school attendance in South Africa. Many families are simply unable to afford the cost of a uniform.

Children are kept from attending school because their parents or guardian cannot afford a uniform or stationery. We identify these children through referrals by social workers, community leaders and other non-profit organisations working within the community.

We want to be pro-active in identifying these children and their families to avoid the danger of these children becoming involved in drug abuse, prostitution, child labour, sexual abuse and gangsterism.

The idea is not to sustain the family in poverty, but to provide these children and families with a fighting chance, empowering them through early intervention, support networking and relationship-building.

Principle beneficiaries:

* School aged children ages 5 – 21
* Orphans (both parents passed away and child living with brother/sister/family member – “child-headed households”)
* HIV and AIDS affected families (were primary caregiver is too ill to work)
* Victims of calamity (e.g fire, sexual abuse, violence)
* Families living in extreme poverty

Main objectives:

* Keep children enrolled in school
* Alleviate child stress due to poverty
* Foster healthy self esteem through regular home visits
* Life Skills Training/Activities
* Leadership
